Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Words Android application ("Words", "the app", "we", or "us") handles information when you use the app.
Account and data deletionInformation we process
Words may process the following information:
- Google account information. When you sign in with Google, Google provides an identity token. Our server uses it to authenticate you and may receive basic profile information such as your name and profile picture.
- Your word cards. Words, translations, language labels, and related card identifiers that you create or edit are stored so they can be shown and synchronized across supported clients.
- Session and local app data. The app stores session cookies, widget settings, and a local cache of cards on your device to keep you signed in and make app and widget features work.
- Feedback and limited diagnostics. The production app keeps a small diagnostic journal on your device for reliability and troubleshooting. It is not uploaded automatically. If you choose Send feedback, the report may include your written message, an optional country that you enter, app version, Android SDK version, and up to 100 recent operational events such as operation results, timings, item counts, coarse error types, and coarse network state. Network state is limited to an error category, whether Android had validated internet access, and a transport class such as Wi-Fi, cellular, VPN, or none.
- Feedback delivery. When you are signed in and online, feedback is sent over HTTPS and associated with your Words account so we can investigate it. When you are offline or signed out, Words opens a draft in your email app with a sanitized JSON attachment. You review and send that draft yourself. In that case, your email provider and our support mailbox process the message, and your sender address is visible as part of ordinary email delivery.
Release diagnostic reports exclude word and translation contents, credentials, passwords, tokens, cookies, request and response bodies, raw URLs, hostnames, IP addresses, email fields, and stack traces. The app and server apply separate allowlists before an online report is stored.
How we use information
We use this information only to:
- authenticate your account and maintain your session;
- store, display, synchronize, edit, and delete your word cards;
- provide app and home-screen widget functionality;
- investigate feedback, protect the service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot technical problems;
- respond to privacy, support, or data-deletion requests.
We do not sell your personal information and do not use your word cards for advertising.
Service providers
Words relies on service providers that process limited information on our behalf:
- Google Sign-In provides account authentication. Google's handling of information is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Cloudflare provides hosting, network delivery, and database infrastructure for the Words service.
- Email providers process a feedback or deletion message only when you choose to send one by email.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users, or to defend the security and integrity of the service.
Data storage and security
Word-card and account-related data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored on our service infrastructure. Session information and cached app data are also stored locally on your device. Signed-in feedback is transmitted over HTTPS. Email feedback is protected according to the transport and storage practices of the email providers involved. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
Data retention
We retain account and word-card data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Submitted feedback, diagnostic reports, import reliability records, and support correspondence are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to investigate the request, maintain service reliability, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations, and are then deleted or de-identified. We may retain limited information longer where required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or resolving disputes. Local app data remains on your device until it is cleared by the app, the operating system, or you.
Account and data controls
Data deletion
You can edit or delete individual word cards in the app. Signing out ends the current app session, but it does not by itself delete your account or server-side data.
To permanently delete your Words account and associated data, open the Words app while signed in, open the menu, choose Delete account and data, and confirm the deletion in the app.
Use this button carefully. Account deletion is permanent and deletes your account, word cards, languages, settings, account-linked feedback, and account-linked import reliability records from active systems. Data stored only on your device may remain until you clear app storage or uninstall the app. Email correspondence that you sent separately is handled as support correspondence and deleted when it is no longer needed. Limited records may be retained only where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or resolving disputes.
Children's privacy
Words is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
International processing
Your information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live. Data-protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy at this URL and update the date at the top of the page.
